The Skagit River is host to the largest congregation of bald eagles in the continental United States - it's the winter feeding ground for over 500 bald eagles that come to feast on our spawning salmon and enjoy the relatively warm weather of the Skagit Valley. Drift quietly by the eagles while enjoying the comfort of our rafts, with warm blankets for your comfort and hot chocolate served on board.
©2006 RJ BestThe Lower section of the Skagit is very calm and the tour is peaceful and relaxing. The birds perch in the cottonwood trees at the river's edge so you'll have great opportunities for close-up views. You'll be in awe by how close you come as you watch eagles perched in the trees alongside the river or soaring overhead with their magnificent seven-foot wing span! Be sure to bring your binoculars and camera.
We meet at our North Cascades getaway, our 8-acre property right alongside the Skagit River, where your boat and warm blankets will be waiting. We'll hand out life jackets go over what you'll need to know, and set out for the day - make sure you have plenty of warm clothes and your camera or binoculars!
We launch the boats into the river right from the back of our property. You'll begin the trip floating down the river, taking in the amazing scenery. We'll watch for eagles as we enjoy hot chocolate and learn all about these amazing birds from your guide. The eagles become more numerous as we continue down the river and float into the Preserve. Once in the preserve, you might see several birds all on one tree!
When our trip ends, we'll head back up to the property where we'll chase away the chill with our winter chili feed beside a roaring campfire - a perfect way to finish out a winter afternoon.

©2006 RJ BestRiver Classifications
River classification means the degree of difficulty of rafting the river. The higher the rating, the more obstacles (such as rocks and trees) are in the river. It does not mean the higher the waves. The Wenatchee and the Methow rivers are only class 3 but have the tallest rapids in the state.
What to Bring:
Please remember to bring warm waterproof boots to wear! No tennis shoes as your feet will get cold. We use self bailing rafts, and they do have a small amount of water on the floor.
